Dr. Ahmad Makhdoum is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiac Surgery, Department of Surgery, at King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah. He is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), with subspecialty fellowship training in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). He completed his cardiac surgery residency at the University of Toronto, serving as Chief Resident in both cardiac and vascular surgery, followed by a CT TAVR fellowship at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, where he was Chief TAVR Fellow. He also holds a Master of Science in Health Research Methodology from McMaster University, with a thesis on sutureless aortic valve replacement, and earned his MBBS with Honors from King Abdulaziz University. As a master's-trained clinical investigator, Dr. Makhdoum leads a focused research program on aortic valve disease, valve-in-valve TAVR feasibility, sutureless aortic valve replacement, aortic root enlargement, and evidence synthesis. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, the Journal of Cardiac Surgery, and the Canadian Journal of Cardiology, and has presented his work at the American Association for Thoracic Surgery and the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress.
